Fishing Insights Privacy Notice

Consent is off by default. You can register, start live fishing, and use normal Wavuna features without consenting.

Purpose

To research statistical relationships among fish species, seasons, times, weather, pressure, bait/methods, fishing effort, and Bite/Catch outcomes, and produce identity-free aggregate fishing insights.

Data processed

When consent and the server feature are both enabled, private processing may include verified location, GPS accuracy, waterbody/province and coarse spatial derivatives; session duration, rod/effort, bait/tackle, Bite, escaped/caught outcome, species, weight/length, and time-matched environmental conditions. Passwords, session tokens, and photos are not added to the analytics observation.

Location separation

Insights location is kept separate from a live session's public location.

• Your EXACT / APPROXIMATE / CITY setting is unchanged, and private analytics data is not exposed through public APIs.
• The exact Insights GPS point is held only while coarse GEOHASH6/water/administrative derivation and environmental matching are pending; it is removed when finished and always within seven days.
• Coarse derivatives may remain private and linked to a user, so they are not described as anonymous. Only approved aggregates that cannot be linked back to identity are treated as anonymous.

Environmental providers

No Wavuna user identity or exact fishing point is sent to these providers.

• MET Norway Locationforecast: a four-decimal coarse coordinate derived from the GEOHASH6 centroid for live/current weather and fishing conditions.
• NASA POWER / MERRA-2: a coarse location snapped to a 0.5° latitude × 0.625° longitude environmental grid for delayed historical reanalysis.

Retention and anonymous aggregates

The exact point is retained for no more than seven days. Private linked observations and derivatives remain until consent withdrawal, account deletion, or policy-based deletion. Policy-versioned aggregates that cannot be linked to identity may be retained long-term and recomputed when linked source data is removed.

Withdrawal and account deletion

You may switch consent off at any time in Settings > Privacy. New collection stops immediately and consent-based linked private data is queued for deletion. Account deletion also removes this private data; genuinely anonymous aggregates may remain.

Consent version

The current Fishing Insights consent version is 1.0. Ordinary wording changes do not automatically require renewed consent; a materially expanded purpose or data scope must use a new consent version.
